Hungry Records
Producers: Stone, D-Rell & Ed
By M.G. DeQuincy 'DQ' Hall
This debut from Hungry Records' Young Meez was a good first effort, and I expect his sophomore effort (if I can get ahead of things for a moment) will only build upon what's presented here.
I found Meez to be his tightest on tracks like "Around Here," where he paints a vivid picture of his environment on a laid back, just-ride-to-it beat produced by "Ed," and the similarly paced "Simple Things," where Meez talks to his woman about the same.
He fails to set himself apart from the pack on tracks such as "Back Up," "Like That," and "Protect," but not enough to take away from the fact that overall this is a solid release.
As far as production is concerned, Stone, D-Rell & Ed each offer up their own style and positively contribute to the effort, but I was really moved by the Mob-style Ed brought to the table and the way Stone's beats lifted the mood. D-Rell's beats are the more dark-sounding, gothic, Southern style of the three.
