Surge Spittable

On the Mic

By: Clarissa Grayson (*~Japanissa~*) Your Eye Behind The Scenes and J.S. Gutierrez Jr.

We Hip Hoppers are always on the lookout for new upcoming talent in the relatively unknown Northwest Hip-Hop community and Surge Spittable is definitely talent worth mentioning. In a recent phone conversation with this kat Clarissa and Jose S. Gutierrez Jr. of Seaspot got to know a little bit about the life and accomplishments of this upcoming Seattle star.

Born on La Isla de Puerto Rico, this intelligent 23-year-old Boriqua moved to Seattle from Fort Lauderdale, Florida roughly five years ago for college. Surge started getting into the game back in high school when he and some other kats would battle during lunch time in the cafeteria, but he mentions that he had been writing for years before that.

Surge says that his years of preparation in the lunchroom finally paid off, when he got to eat some MCs in front of a sizeable crowd. Back in February Surge says he placed in the final four out of a 64 MC battle during the Brainstorm Hip-Hop event in Seattle. Surge normally works solo, but he has done work with a kat named E-Real Universal. E-Real did work on a production with other Northwest artists called 911 America (produced by Silent Knight). The name of the single from Surge and E-Real is "KARMA" and it can be found in local mom and pop shops in Seattle.

Surge has also had a strong presence in the Bellingham area's bustling Hip Hop scene, performing with his crew, The Prospect Champions. He has rocked the spot at Downtown Johnny's, Christo's, at Western Washington University and countless house parties and ciphers. Surge says that he plans to be a link to bring more Hip Hop to the Pacific Northwest and expects to be heard on your radio soon, as he has already appeared on Bellingham's only Hip Hop programming radio show at KUGS 89.3 FM.

Closer to Seattle, Surge has preformed at I-Spy, Paradox, the EMP, and Seattle Center outdoors to name a few of his showcases. Surge is very dedicated to his musical goals, and stays focused on his dream of getting signed and funded for his art, by setting smaller goals to gauge his success. Surge says he doesn't mind, and enjoys his street credibility, but would like his music to one day touch everyone without having to compromise himself.

For now Surge is Seattle based, but don't be surprised if one day soon you see this kat announcing the release of an album.
