3- way page me!!!
You’ve probably seen them in
everyone's videos from F-A-B-O to Jay-Z. They are the
hottest and latest in the ongoing marriage between cell
phones and PDA’s. It’s the HipTop by Danger.com. Huh!!!
What!!! You’re probably asking yourself what the hell is
this guy talking about. Actually the gadget that I’m
referring to is commonly know as the Sidekick by
T-mobile and it has urban technophiles salivating
everywhere.
The Sidekick takes the basic features from the now
famous 2-way pagers and greatly expands on them while
adding many other options. As it’s predecessors did the
Sidekick offers email. It also offers AIM (AOL instant
messaging) as well as a PIM or personal information
manager. At 6.02 oz the sidekick weighs in less than the
Timeport by Motorola. Danger recently unveiled the
Sidekick with a full color screen which make viewing
much more pleasant. The Color screen combined with the
web browser offers viewing that is surprisingly similar
to PC viewing. With the ability to visit your favorite
websites to view content, there is no need to wait for
wireless updates like the Timeport. One main
difference between the Timeport and the Sidekick is that
the latter is also a full functioning cell with service
capabilities in more than seventy countries. With 32MB
of Ram and USB and IrDA as well as headset and
accessories ports the Sidekick is more than equipped to
handle plenty of data and information transfers. A
camera attachment (a must these days) is also available.
T-Mobile offers a range of voice plans and users can
add unlimited data and email for an additional $20
monthly. For those who wish to use only the data and
email services T-Mobile has a plan for $29.99 a month
with an option to add pay-as- you go minutes for 20
cents a minute.
There are two visible drawbacks to the Sidekick, the
first being it’s durability and the second being it’s
inability to beam (although it is upgradeable). All in
all for under $300.00 the Side Kick is the best thing
going in urban personal communications. With web
browsing, email and cell phone service it’s your
choice…just 3-way me.
