Lil' Kim might be a marketing genius to some when it comes
to her ever changing looks.
Gene: Would you say that you're the black Madonna
now?
Lil' Kim: I haven't reached my peak yet, but I want
to be looked at the way she was looked at. I want to do for
the hip hop culture what she did for her music culture.
Gene: Are you using your body as a sexual tool to
sell records?
Lil' Kim: If I am, I'm unaware of it. But I guess so.
It's something that's natural.
Gene: What about you in King magazine? You're not
trying to be overly provocative sometimes?
Lil' Kim: No.
Gene: Will you ever take your body to the next level
for a magazine?
Lil' Kim: Like?
Gene: Like posing nude for Playboy.
Lil' Kim: Yeah, I would. I wouldn't mind doing it,
but not now.
Gene: La Bella Mafia is your latest CD and reviews
say it's not good. Some say your best work was when you
debuted with Hardcore.
Lil' Kim: I think people like to pigeonhole people
and I think it's wrong. I know for a fact that Hardcore was
not my best work. There are a lot of classics on it, yes,
but I believe, La Bella Mafia is my best work. I know it. I
did it on my own. I did it by myself.
Gene: I know you heard it all such as Lil' Kim is
nothing without The Notorious B.I.G.
Lil' Kim: People are ignorant and they don't want you
to succeed. I don't pay any attention to it. I've been
holding it down for years since he's been gone.
Gene: How did you come up with the album title?
Lil' Kim: I watched a great movie called "La Bella
Mafia." I think it's an independent movie. The movie deals
with going through adversaries. The same thing I had to go
through.
Gene: Let's talk about "Magic Stick." How did you end
up working with 50 Cent after he dissed you on a track
called "Love Me."
Lil' Kim: He called me and apologized. He had to
eventually bow down and kiss the queen's pinky ring. He knew
at the end of the day that he made himself look bad.
Gene: What did you think about 50's lyrics in general
on that particular track?
Lil' Kim: I never paid the song any attention after I
heard what he said about me. 50 was like a boy in first
grade who tells a girl that he likes her by pulling her
hair. Bottom line, he's a Kim fan.
Gene: Will there be a "Magic Stick" video?
Lil' Kim: I don't know. I would love to do it, but
you know, politics.
Gene: What do you mean?
Lil' Kim: Nowadays, people are tripping. There aren't
a lot of kind people in this industry. It's disappointing.
Gene: If you could do a track with anyone right now,
who would it be?
Lil' Kim: Eminem or Nelly. I think we would have
great chemistry.
Gene: What's the craziest thing a fan has done that
always stands out in your mind?
Lil' Kim: One time, a fan came to my house and said,
"God sent me." That they needed to see me. It's weird.
There's also a guy in jail that swears we're twins and that
he was born from my mother. And now he has a son whom he
says looks like me.
Gene: You're in an indie Western coming out later
this year called "Guns And Roses."
Lil' Kim: Yeah, it also stars Lisaraye, Bobby Brown,
Stacey Dash and Mario Van Peebles. I play a character by the
name of Chastity. She's like the baby sister of all the
girls. She's kind of weak for men which is very opposite of
Lil' Kim.
Gene: Can we talk about you and Junior Mafia?
Lil' Kim: No, I don't want to talk about it. [Laughs]
Gene: What is the main thing that people misconstrue
about you?
Lil' Kim: People think I'm a heartless bitch that's
all about sex. Actually, I'm a decent human being and I'm a
woman. I know a lot of celebrities that are heartless, but
I'm not one of them.
