Man, you know when Tha Liks are upset
something is terribly wrong. How can these perennial party
people from Pacoima, Cali be so upset you ask? Betrayal! J-Ro
of Tha Liks took a little time out of his studio session at
Likwit Entertainment's studios in LA to discuss why he and
some other cats were disappointed, but are now a few cuss
words more upset with Xzibit. For those who don't know, Xzibit
would not be rappin' with as much notoriety today if not for
the tutelage of Tha Likwit Crew and Tha Liks specifically. I
asked J-Ro about Xzibit's "Get it Crip" statements and his
gang bang references as it is well known in LA that he is not
an LA native and X is not affiliated with any hoods. "Well, he
doesn't have a hood...no one is claiming him and he can't
claim anywhere. He can't say he's from Watts, South Central,
the Valley or anywhere," says a relaxed and matter-of-factly
spoken J-Ro.
In fact, according to all accounts, X
is from New Mexico, which is cool and all - no one is downing
roots, but people are heated because of Xzibit's blown up ego
since rolling with Dr. Dre, Snoop and Eminem within the last
few years, according to accounts. "I'm not trippin' if he's
not responding to us (Tha Liks), but ya know, King Tee tried
to call him and he didn't return King Tee's call. King Tee put
Xzibit on the map first with 'Freestyle Ghetto'." At this
point J-Ro, an old-school vet, had to take it back to the park
and the studio, releasing his underground burner "The X-Homie."
Nuff said. Check the track, it leaves no stones unturned
and to keep it accurate, Tha Liks are like X's big brothers
and mentors so this appears to be more of a verbal a** kickin'
more than an invitation for gunplay. Because although they are
definitely from the notorious Pac Town and if necessary can
get retarded, Tha Liks are still party people and do not
promote violence. This is a family feud. Stay out if you ain't
connected.
In the meantime, check for the Liks
new release - not yet titled - on Artist Direct. They've got
heat with E-Swift on the tracks, Tash still bustin' lyrics and
J-Ro doing his thizzle with a solo release forthcoming on his
olfPac Records label. Also, look out for Y.A. and J. Wells
Mixtapes on WolfPac Records.
