Kube93, Mospeed productions, and Magnolia Hi-Fi kicked off the Seattle’s first Global Import Car show. More than 10,000 people came through the Tacoma Dome to enjoy the virgin city’s first taste of some extremely sensual and high performance cars.
All day people walked around the two rooms full of cars and vendors. All styles of cars and bikes were on display, from import to domestic, from old school to new models. This year it seems a lot of people were sporting the black carbon fiber hoods, and the model mini-toy cars.
Teams such as Team Menace (www.teammenace.com), Team 04, and Team Outkast were there to show off their trademark cars, and take home some 1st place trophies. Team Menace took home at least 4 1st place awards. Among Team Menace’s cars were Ricky Phanivong’s gold colored ‘99 Civic Hatchback with a Japanese Type R motor and 19” rims, and his teammate’s ‘91 Toyota MR2-with Veilside kit, 18” Ro_Ja rims and two TV’s in the front hood. This MR2 won 1st place in Toyota class.
Even celebrities sent their cars to the show. Jamal Crawford from the Chicago Bulls sent his Escalade with its custom interior. Shawn Springs of the Seattle Seahawks also sent an Escalade. Gary Payton of the Sonics sent his Viper. Dale Ellis, retired from the Seattle Sonics sent his Denali, and Kube93’s Eric Powers sent his very, very, very expensive, custom made, special ordered from the city dump Subaru covered with pretty models, and trash in the front window. Eric’s beat up old car was the best there, and brought lots of laughs and smiles as it sat next to the other celebrity cars.
Models Verena Mei, Jamin Alejandrino, and Mia Guzman were on the spot signing their posters for fans. Verena Mei later announced on stage that she received her license last April as a certified Drag car racer. Do it big!
Cars and models weren’t the only thing going on at this car show. There were sumo-wrestling competitions, the Fraggle Rock break-dancing group preformed, and DJ SupaSam was on the turn tables dropping hot hits. Later performances by Jurassic 5, and Unexpected Arrival took place on the Kube93 concert stage. Jurassic 5 performed their hit “Quality Control”, and had their DJs show off their skills to the crowd with a five-minute performance that had everybody open. The highlight of Unexpected Arrival’s show was one of the guys called B-Shorty who was beatboxing for the crowd and he also sang the hooks for the songs that Unexpected Arrival performed.
For the people that got tired of walking around early in the day, Magnolia Hi-Fi had its Mobile Audio & Video set up. It was in a spaceship/plane looking set-up that people could sit and watch Fast and the Furious and experience some of Magnolia Hi-Fi’s products.
After all the performances a total of 120 awards were given out from a choice of 320 cars on display. Each first place winner received $100. To Best of Show went recipient went $500, and $1000 went to the Elite Class winner. Below are some of the winners of this years show.
