Okaaaayyy!
Y’all ready to get crunk? Str8 from the ATL, it’s Lil’ Jon &
The Eastside Boyz, the Kings of Crunk. Now, if you’re
into insightful lyrics and melodic grooves, then this ain’t
the joint for you. Lil’ Jon, Big Sam, and Lil’ Bo make
adreneline pumpin’trunk rattlin’ music y’undastand? With
their 4th album, Lil’ Jon and crew combine block
rockin’ beats with numerous guest appearances with the aim of
making crunk music a national sensation.
Kings of Crunk’s first single “I Don’t Give a Fuck” has
been blowin’ up in the clubs for the past couple months. The
whole vibe of the album is like the old school Showtime Lakers
with Magic and them. Up-tempo and high-energy from start to
finish, Kings of Crunk should appeal to peeps on both
coasts. After a bad ass intro, Pastor Troy is on hand for the
Atlanta hood anthem “Throw It Up”. For the east coast homies,
Styles and Jadakiss come through on “Knockin’ Heads Off”.
Don’t worry ‘cuz the west coast is repped as well with E40
joining Petey Pablo, 8Ball, and Bun B on “Rep Yo’ City”. Lil’
Jon brings some bluesy guitar-laced funk for the Texas homies
on “Diamonds”, with MJG and UGK’s Bun B. Fat Joe and Trick
Daddy trade verses on “Play No Games”, warning the ladies to
stay away from them lame dudes. Lil’ Jon slows it down for
the ladies on “Oh Nana Nana” with Devin the Dude and Oobie,
one of Jon’s new artists. Oobie also sings on “Nothin’s Free”
the only R&B joint on the album, and “Nothin’ On” with Chyna
White. Kings of Crunk is one of the few albums that
actually have pretty decent skits on it, especially “Pimpin’
Ken Speaks”, not to mention the funny-as-hell “Weedman”.
Former Goodie Mob member Big Gipp spits 12 bars on “Keep Yo
Chullin Out The Streets”, and has some choice words for a
certain R&B singer facing charges.
Most of the tracks on Kings
of Crunk feature rowdy call and response choruses from Lil’
Jon and crew, with the majority of the verses supplied by the
various guest artists. Sometimes the choruses are a bit
annoying with Lil’ Jon screaming at the top of his lungs, but
his production usually makes up for it. Big Sam and Lil’ Bo
drop verses on some of the songs, but get outshined from the
more visible stars that appear throughout the CD. Lil’ Jon
calls the album the “Crunk Chronic”. Now, I wouldn’t go that
far, but the album is way better than their previous three
releases. With 21 tracks and over an hour’s worth of
material, Kings of Crunk should keep clubs packed from
up top to down south, shawty.
