The
soundtrack to the box office smash Cradle 2 The Grave is DMX’s
first release on his new label Bloodline Records. X features
several of his new artists on the soundtrack, letting
newcomers like Bazaar Royale, Kashmir, and Big Stan shine
alongside some of the bigger names on the album. The Bloodline
camp does have its potential, but the best joints on the
soundtrack come from some of the more established artists.
Cradle 2 The Grave co-star DMX is on four tracks, including
the monster “Go To Sleep” with Eminem and Obie Trice, and the
1st single “X Gon’ Give It To Ya”. Brooklyn and Queens come
together on “Stompdashitoutu” from C.N.N. & M.O.P. Capone and
Nore trade lines like “It don’t matter if you skinny or
fatter/Still blow a nigga brains out, and shoot up his
bladder". And you now M.O.P. brings their usual high-octane
style that made them underground legends. Super producer
Mannie Fresh freaks the Lionel Richie sample on “Won’t Be
Coming Back” with fellow Big Tymer, Baby. I know they can’t
spit, but it’s still fire, can I get a birdcall up in here? 50
Cent gets help from his G-Unit partners Tony Yayo and Lloyd
Banks on “Follow Me Gangster”. Banks drops a couple of the
illest lines on the album with “My crew in the cut packin’
metal things/With more foreign shooters than the Sacramento
Kings”. Clipse and Joe Budden come through with decent tracks
respectively on “I’m Serious” and “Drop Drop”. “C2G”, Fat
Joe’s track with Youngn’ Restless is just aight, and Foxy
Brown’s “My Life” featuring Althea is subpar compared to some
of the hotter joints.
Drag-On brings some down south Double R flavor with “Fireman”,
another so-so track. Bloodline artist Bazaar Royale holds it
down on “What’s It All For?” which would be pretty decent if
not for the annoying hook. Jinx Da Juvy claims he’s “the best
thing that happened to Def Jam since LL” on not so off the
hook “Off The Hook”. New comers Comp, Kashmir, Big Stan, and
Profit all have fairly decent joints on the soundtrack and
show pretty good promise on the mic. The Bloodline Records
camp is more than just DMX, so you may wanna check for some of
these artists in the future. The Cradle 2 The Grave soundtrack
has its share of joints on it no doubt. I like how X gave some
of his newer artists a chance to do their thing on a high
profile album. Fans of DMX and Def Jam will probably dig the
soundtrack for the most part.
