Cam’ron aka Killa Cam re-enters the Hip-Hop arena with his
third installment of Harlem bred hustle, Come Home With Me.
Unlike his prior two releases, Cam’ron has more on his plate
and claims to be a bit hungrier.
Once a basketball standout in New York, Cam has refocused his
extracurricular activities to the microphone on …With Me.
Gansta beats, female treats and straps with heat complete this
measuring stick of an album in Cam’s career.
On the bangin’ track “Losin’ Weight Pt. 2”, Cam’ron displays
the street braggadocio made so common by most MCs and rappers
these days. On this one, Cam flips his monologue about the
brutal drug game and the experiences that have shaped him from
a baller to BALLER.
Cam’s catchy wide-ranging popularity on tracks like his lead
single “Oh Boy”, “Hey Ma” and the ghetto love drama track
“Daydreaming” keep the ladies involved as well. These cuts
show Cam’s other less hardcore party side of the brain, made
so familiar on his ’98 breakout single “Horse and Carriage”
performed with none other than the retired Mason “Mase” Betha.
Still Cam keeps it Killa on the Ghostface (Killah) sampled
title track “Come Home With Me” and the thugged out “Live My
Life” featuring the Tupac sample of “All Eyes On Me” and west
coaster Daz Dillinger of the Dogg Pound lacing the beat. Jay-Z
strikes again on the Big Apple banger “Welcome to New York
City” to let all those who don’t – know.
For Cam, Come Home With Me is not as much a third album as it
is a long time coming. And with support from the industry
heavy weights at Roc-A-Fella Records, Cam finally has the
label support he has needed, to come strong with his latest
offering.
In all, Come Home With Me is not a classic, but Cam’s clever
mixture of above average production, chickenhead drama, lust,
rugged tales, lyrical wit and more drama make for an album
that leaves a benchmark for other MCs to reach for in the
current material item world of Hip-Hop.
