2G3 Grammy’s

The Grammy’s were back in NYC for the first time in four years.  Eminem, India Arie, and Nelly were big winners in the fields of Hip-Hop & R&B, taking home two awards each.  Em won for Best Rap Album and Video of the Year.  Arie took home Best Urban/Alternative Performance and Best R&B Album, while Nelly made the Midwest proud by capturing the nod for Best Male Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.  Other urban winners included:

Female R&B Performance: ‘‘He Think I Don’t Know,’’ Mary J. Blige.

Male R&B Performance: ‘‘U Don’t Have to Call,’’ Usher.

R&B Song: ‘‘Love of My Life (An Ode To Hip Hop),’’ Erykah Badu, Robert Ozuna, James Poyser, Raphael Saadiq & Glen Standridge (Erykah Badu featuring Common).

R&B Album: ‘‘Voyage To India,’’ India.Arie.

Contemporary R&B Album: ‘‘Ashanti,’’ Ashanti.

Female Rap Solo Performance: ‘‘Scream a.k.a. Itchin’,’’ Missy Elliott.

Bad Boy & Def Jam Reach Historic Agreement

Puffy and Def Jam CEO Lyor Cohen have agreed to co-release new albums from 112 and Foxy Brown.  Puff once again proved his business savvy by getting an injunction that prevented 112 from bouncing over to Def Jam.  In addition, Puff was all set to snatch Def Jam artist Foxy Brown and bring her over to Bad Boy.  However, Def Jam and Bad Boy will split album profits, promotion, marketing, and A& R duties equally.  112 & Foxy’s future releases will even sport a Bad Boy/Def Jam logo.  Bad Boy will still retain ownership of the 112 catalog.  Looks like the man who doesn’t write rhymes but writes checks will be bringing in a whole lot more paper in the future.

Funk Flex Gets New Cable Show

The hardest working DJ in the biz will now have his on show on TNN.  Ya, that’s right, TNN.  I think that’s the country channel or somethin’.  In any case, the network ordered six episodes of “The Funkmaster Flex Show”.  The show will feature Hip-Hop artists and their cars, kinda like MTV’s “Cribs”.  Flex will also serve as executive producer on the new show.

Juvenile Pleads Guilty On Battery Charge

Juve will have to do 75 hours of community service and will be on probation for a year after pleading guilty to felony battery charges.  The charges stem from a brawl that took place almost 2 years ago in a New Orleans comedy club.  Juve knocked a cat out with a champagne bottle during the melee.  Even though the brawl involved a few other people, Juve was the only person arrested.

Busta Rhymes’ SUV Shot Up

Busta Bus’ brand new Suburban was shot six times by an unknown gunman outside Violator’s offices in NYC.  No one was injured in the shooting, and the motive is unknown.  Busta went inside the office, and came out around 20 minutes later.   When he went outside, the SUV was hit with six shots from a revolver.  Last month, gunmen shot up Violator’s reception area as well. Currently, no one knows exactly who was targeted in either incident.
