The Seaspot Week In Review
With Nate Money

First off, I wanna send an RIP shout out to the 21 victims who died in the nightclub stampede back home in Chicago.  My heart goes out to all those who lost love ones in this tragic event.

 Jay-Z Showtime Concert Still On

I dunno what’s goin’ down with Tyson, but Jigga is still set to perform this Saturday in Memphis.  First, Iron Mike decided not to fight Clifford “Black Rhino” Etienne because he had the flu.  Now, Mike is saying he wants to fight, but who knows what’s gonna happen.  In any case, you can catch Jay on Showtime this Saturday.

Eve’s New Clothing Line Coming To A Store Near You

Ruff Ryder’s 1st Lady has already tackled music, movies, and TV.  Now she’s ready to join the likes of Puff, J-Lo, and Russell in the fashion business.  Eve’s clothing line, Fetish, will be marketed, designed, and distributed through Innovo Azteca Apparel.  Fetish will feature contemporary juniors and misses styles, and will be carried in department and specialty stores.

Russell Simmons & Mos Def Appearing In Anti-War Ads

Russell and Mighty Mos are speaking out on the possible war with Iraq in two commercials sponsored by True Majority.  Russell’s ad shows war scenes along with dead bodies and injured children.  Mos Def’s commercial showcases government spending with the Pentagon budget dwarfing the budgets for education, world hunger, and other pressing issues.  True Majority is an organization started by Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream co-founder Ben Cohen. You can check out the ads at www.truemajority.com.

Cam’ron vs. NBA

Killa Cam is pissed that the NBA left him out of the MJ tribute during half time of the All Star Game.  Cam was supposed to perform with Mariah Carey during the half time show, but the NBA denied him because they don’t get down with rap.  Then, the league cited a lawsuit they filed against Cam’s former label Untertainment because they used the NBA logo with a gun in Jerry West’s hand for Cam’s S.D.E. album.  Finally, the NBA claims that they agreed with Mariah’s label to exclude Cam because of a pending gun charge.  Killa is not trying to hear any of this, and is seeking some type of compensation.  I think the league should compensate by not allowing any ballplayers to come out with albums unless they got skills on the mic, but that’s just my opinion.

Mobb Deep Gets $10 Million Deal

The Infamous Mobb now has a new home with Jive Records that should make Havoc and Prodigy very rich.  Jive gave the duo $10 million for signing, and the deal is supposed to be a 50/50 split with the label.  Mobb Deep was previously rumored to be signing with Shady/Aftermath, but will now be joining West Coast rap pioneers Too Short and E-40 on Jive.

Busta Rhymes Quits Chronic

Busta Bus became the latest MC to stop smoking weed recently.  Busta had been puffing for close to 20 years but is now smoke-free.  Since Snoop announced his “retirement” last year, Eminem and Xzibit have also recently laid off the greenery.
