Big Pun Tribute Tour Planned

A 15-city tour will kick off February 6th at NYC’s Manhattan center to honor the late great MC.  Nas, NORE, Fabolous, Cuban Link, Missy Elliot, and Nelly are some of the artists set to perform.  Proceeds will benefit the Christopher Rios Foundation, which is headed by Liza Rios, Pun’s widow.  The rest of the tour dates have yet to be announced, but check us out for more info when it is available.

FBI, NYPD Raid Murder Inc. Offices

A year-long federal investigation culminated with the raiding of the Murder Inc. offices and studio in New York last Friday.  The Feds allege that Irv Gotti had financial ties to NYC drug lord Kenneth “Supreme” Griffith.  Griffith led the Supreme Team with Pappy Mason and Fat Cat Nichols back in the 80’s.  Basically, these cats had all of Queens on smash back then, and the names may sound familiar because Nas, Ja Rule, and 50 Cent have shouted them out in some of their songs.  Hell, even Roc-a-Fella made a movie about the Supreme Team.  Griffith was recently arrested in Miami for a parole violation. Anyway, the Feds seized computers and various documents from the Inc. office, and are also looking into possible murder, money laundering, and assault charges, not to mention a possible link to 2Pac’s murder.  Two men were arrested for credit card fraud on Tuesday in connection the investigation.  This is only the tip of the iceberg, because rumors are flying about several arrests expected to happen in the next week or so.  The question remains whether or not these are valid allegations or another unjust attack on Hip-Hop by the powers that be.

2K3 Grammy’s

The nominees for the 45th annual Grammy Awards were just announced with Nelly, Eminem, Ashanti, and Raphael Saadiq leading the way with five nominations each.  New categories this year include Best Urban/Alternative Performance, Best Female Rap Performance, and Best Contemporary R&B Album.  For a full list of nominees, check out www.grammy.com.  The awards will be broadcast on CBS from NYC’s Madison Square Garden on February 23rd at 8PM

Lil’ Cease Gets Probation On Gun Charge

The Junior M.A.F.I.A. member plead guilty earlier in the week to gun possession charges, and will get 5 years of probation.  All of this came as a result of a shooting at NYC’s La Guardia Airport back in August of 2001.  Allegedly, Cease and his homeboys assaulted and shot a man in the leg for talking too loud on his cell phone.  Besides the possession charge, Cease is also facing attempted murder, harassment, and 5 counts of assault, but the judge is expected to drop the rest of the charges.

Jay Z To Perform on Showtime Special

Jigga will add another feat to his already impressive music career by being the first MC to perform on a premium cable TV special.  Jay and the rest of the Roc la Familia will do a show at Memphis’s Mid South Coliseum before Mike Tyson’s next fight on February 22nd.  Showtime is planning an all-out marketing effort for the event, so expect to hear a lot about it in the next few weeks.
