Janet Jackson made the
second stop of her tour at the Key Arena on Sunday July 8th. She
looked happy, and more vivrant than anything Q Tip could rhyme about.
Due to certain technical difficulties I missed 112’s opening performance -
long story. Janet’s show started off with a bang (literally) as she and her
dancers brightened our night with the dancing that we all love. Her white
outfit was stunning – but it was those terrific abs that made it work.
Janet made several costume changes throughout the show as
expected - a couple of elaborate stage changes (overall the stage setup is
incredible). From Opera-like dramatics to a fun toy box anthem made for a
diverse presentation. She did a little lip-syncing, but a LOT of singing (I
was pleasantly surprised) - she had a very light and airy vibe about her,
smiling and laughing a lot. She looked so at ease too. Lighting was
fantastic (as expected) and her band was tight. I kinda miss the old Chuckii
Booker days tho....
The set consisted of a
few tracks from the new album All For You, but she brought out the
old skool ish too – “Nasty”, “Rhythm Nation”, “Black Cat”, “Alright”,
“Escapade”, “Miss You Much”, “If”, and more.... The only issue I had with
the old stuff is that some of the choreography had been revamped, so it
didn't go over as well in my eyes. It was still impeccably performed
regardless.
I was somewhat laid back the first part of the show, just watching quietly,
but after a few songs I HAD to give in because the vibe was just too good to
NOT let it hit me.
She was engaging and
beautiful, in true Janet form.
