Greetings from the 206, My name is DV One and this is the Sea-Spot, turntablist info page. This page is useful for everyone who uses the turntables as their instrument of choice. Be sure to check back weekly for news, tips, and local turntablist info. Since this is my first entry I want to give y’all some background. I started spinnin professionally in 1993. I do radio, mix-tapes/ cd’s, battles, clubs and studio work. I have toured internationally performed with or opened for groups including, Tha Liks, Xzibit, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mos Def, AG, Busta Rhymes, Raekwon, Outkast, Tony Touch and Rock Steady Crew. In 1997 I won the local International Turntablist Federation Battle. I have also taught multiple DJ classes for organizations including Tower Records, American Music, Everyone Has A Song, Boys and Girls Clubs, Experience Music Project and Langston Hughes Cultural Arts Center. My mix CD discography is eight years deep, and I have toured and done professional exhibitions for Twix, Rane mixers, and Shure Needles. As far as my contributions to the local scene, I’ve dedicated my work to all of the elements in the following ways: For the MC’s, Instrumental CD series BEATS TO THE RHYME vol 1 through 4 For the B-Boy’s / girls, I brought Freestyle Sessions and BreakBeats to SEA For the Graf artist, I employ graf artists to do work for CD covers, events, fliers etc.. For the DJ I have flown the worlds best DJ’s to the town and put on battles and exhibitions for DJ’s to flex and compete their skills. This year as well as last I am a major component of the Battle of Bumbershoot. The battle is an all around competition for mc’s and dj’s. Be sure to check back for more info or go to Bumbershoot.com for any specific details. I’d like to start off by thanking y’all and asking for the continued support of 206 artists. The local scene has been buzzin with talent for years, and everyone here knows that it is only a matter of time before someone BLOWS UP! Be ahead of the pack, pick up all of the locals heat here at SEA-Spot.com The local DJ scene just had a DMC battle. Big ups to DJ Tre of Boom Bap Project he took third place. DJ TIP O’ THE WEEK 7/9/01 Be sure to work with fully functional equipment. I recommend technics 1200’s or 1210’s, Rane mixer and Shure needles. Any variation of mixer and needle’s can be ok, but in my opinion nothing I have heard sounds better than the first combo. Common sense tells you that a clean record plays better than a dirty one. Be sure to wipe your records before use. This clears dust and any other particles that you may not see with the naked eye. Be sure to properly store your vinyl as well as avoid niks and scratches (pun intended) .. that’s what causes the crackling or fried chicken sound while your record is playin. Also get eye level with your needle. Bend down and look to see that only your needle is touching your record. Just the needle part, “NOT THE CARTRIDGE OR ANY PART THEREOF”! This prevents scratches or scrapes due to the outer part of the needle’s cartridge and pre-mature wearing down of your wax. If your records sound, you sound good… If you sound good, you get more biz!!! That one is free but the game is sold not told…Smell me?? Please take a minute to respond, add to, and/or discuss all of this on the Message Board below.
Peace until lata!!
