Boom Bap Project
Welcome To Seattle Mixtape
Rhymesayers Entertainment
words - Keith Ancker
So, let's say that you manage to get signed and your debut album is months away, and you have all this material you want to get to your fans. If you're the Boom Bap Project, newly signed to Minneapolis-based Rhymesayers Entertainment, along with local heroes Grayskul, you drop a mixtape for the people, crammed with 33 tracks of unreleased, soon to be released, fan favorites and other stuff you had burning a hole in the hard drive in the studio.
Of course, since it has been a few years, how can we really know if the old Boom Bap still has that knack? Just hit play.
Backed on the boards by the Seattle heavyweights like Jake One, Vitamin D, Bean One and Pale Soul, Welcome To Seattle showcases exactly what it was about Boom Bap that had Rhymesayers checkin' 'em out.
From jump "Cut Down Ya Options" gives heads that heat, with Jake One's strings laying the sonic soundscape for Boom Bap to lace your ears with easy flows and a guest shot from Dilated Peoples Rakaa Iriscience, proving once again that Seattle Talent can hang with the best of the rest. Other guest shots include Gift of Gab, Cool Nutz and Greyskul, just.
Giving a blow by blow account of everything on this mixtape would take too damn much time and space, but I'll let you know, Welcome To Seattle is a good introduction for cats that don't know, and a great appetizer while fans are waiting for Reprogram, the main course.
Lyrically ill, sonically soothing, head-nod inducing, Welcome To Seattle should be on your list when you visit the record store.
