Weapons of
Brash Destruction
by Ambra Nykol
On the tail-end of yet another election year, it is evident that many of our beloved "501(c)(3) exempt-status" organizations play an increasingly large role in presidential elections. As it relates to recognizing the purpose of these organizations, our culture has somehow avoided the land of reason and rationality. Quite simply, some of our organizations suck. These are just few:
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (www.naacp.org)
Perhaps a long, long, long, (long) time ago, there was a day when the NAACP was a worthwhile and upstanding organization. That day has come and gone. Founded upon the need to empower and mobilize black people during the Civil Rights movement, the NAACP did their job quite well. However today, the NAACP’s means of “advancing colored people” is becoming antiquated.
Under the national oversight of Kwesi Mfume, the NAACP has now been reduced to a useless, mindless, and lawsuit-happy, pound of opportunistic flesh. This organization is doing very little to advance "colored people." Instead, they advance their organization and their own agenda through lawsuits, complaints, and public displays of embarrassment. Let's keep in mind, this is an organization whose entire livelihood is determined by lawsuit settlements, donations, and membership dues. Not a good combination. While injustice and racism abound, the effectiveness of the NAACP's tactics are questionable. The NAACP just might be extinct.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (www.peta.org)
There are staunch vegetarians that are embarrassed by the ridiculous organization that is PETA. Perhaps you've seen them handing out religious tracts to schoolchildren, educating them on the perils of eating chicken. Maybe you've seen them stretched out horizontally on the ground in front of a department store, wearing fur covered in red paint. Either way, one thing is certain: PETA members are psychotic. Their silly antics have done nothing for "animal rights" or the plight of the baby seal because quite simply, everyone thinks they are utterly insane.
If this organization isn't complaining about Halle Berry being a spokeswoman for the animal-testing Revlon company, then they're busy convincing the masses that the entire Western Hemisphere of meat-eaters are the evil spawn of Satan. Should one dare to think of just one thing this organization has done that is admirable or legitimate, they will surely fall short.
PETA desires to place animals on the same level as humans and wants to take away your Thanksgiving turkey. No one has time to deal with PETA and their leather-shoe-wearing members. We all have bigger fish to fry - yummy fish that was killed by humans so that it could be enjoyed by carnivores everywhere.
There is nothing wrong with being a vegetarian, but for the love of all things pure, do not proselytize the children. PETA's agenda teeters on the line of complete psychsis and their members (especially the vegans) have become more belligerent. If PETA had their way, we'd all be worshipping animals.
Greenpeace (www.greenpeace.org)
Perhaps you’ve seen their members dangling from construction cranes in protest of destroying old growth forests. Or maybe you’ve seen them attempting “Free Willy 4,” battling with Native Indians over a whale. As crusaders for global justice, Greenpeace’s claim to fame is that they "give the Earth a voice." Boys and girls, please stop with this silliness. The Earth does not need a voice because the Earth is not a human.
Maybe those who live in Nebraska or other landlocked parts of the country haven't been exposed to enough of Greenpeace to recognize their silliness, but this is the beautiful Pacific Northwest, where we spend MILLIONS of dollars saving whales.
Greenpeace has also found a unique partnership with unsuspecting college students, hungry for a cause. They usually roam about highly populated areas of Seattle and other major cities, handing out literature and greeting passersby with the phrase, "Do you have a moment for Greenpeace?" to which you should always reply, "Nope, I sure don't," or “I voted for Bush,” or “I have a really big gun.” Phrases like these generally get them off your back.
According to their mission statement, Greenpeace uses, "non-violent, creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems, and force solutions for a green and peaceful future." Translated: they block highways, hang from construction cranes, spray paint buildings and cause major back-ups on highway overpasses in protest of companies who cut down trees. The police and the fire department are usually dispatched to the scene at the cost of our tax dollars. Stop wasting our money and our time. Just shoot the whale.
The American Civil Liberties Union (www.aclu.org)
Founded in 1920, the ACLU calls themselves the "nation's guardian of liberty," keeping America "safe and free." This is, by the way, a position no one ever asked them to take, but more a self-appointed duty.
The ACLU has perfected the art of manipulating the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. In the name of "civil liberties" they are strategically breaking down whatever values may be left in this country. Speaking of "Left," they profess to be a non-partisan organization (and so is Michael Moore). In their “Open Letter to Civil Libertarians,” the ACLU urged voters to “redouble their efforts to oppose the Bush Administration’s ‘unrelenting assault on our civil liberties.’” Sounds so very nonpartisan, doesn’t it?
Compared to the ACLU, the NAACP looks like a sissy. From the Jesse Jackson school of politics, the ACLU uses intimidation to win their court cases by preying on the flaky conscience of Americans who buy-in to the "protecting liberties" propaganda because they themselves have no moral grounding or ethical stability. Their slew of lawyers handle an average of 6,000 cases every year, going to bat against all things that fall under the header of "morality." They have blurred the distinction between "rights" and "responsibilities." This organization is a wolf in sheep's clothing, a lie masquerading as the truth, and as many might say, "a hot mess." It's time to expose the foolishness.
